About us
Find out about TPS
Our mission is to remove single use plastic containers from the commercial cleaning chemical supply chain in the United Kingdom.
What we do
Plan ➙ schedule ➙ deliver
collect ➙ return ➙ refill ➙ repeat
The Plastic Solution Ltd in partnership with Selden Research Ltd will replace single use plastic pollution with a closed loop reuse distribution system – a unique returnable and refillable container for your commercial cleaning chemical needs.
We take product usage and consumption data to plan your fortnightly replenishment cycle.
We install our dosage system and train your staff on product usage.
We confirm your scheduled delivery in advance of shipment.
We deliver your stock once a fortnight, collect the empty containers and return to our hub.
We consolidate all the empty containers and returned to our factory.
The containers are washed and refilled ready for reuse.
Our unique QR code ensures we track every container in circulation
Why we do it
Why does this matter?
What is the evidence of this?
- Every piece of plastic that’s ever been created still exists in our world.
- Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to our environment.
- Plastic production is the third largest man-made material after steel and cement and is expected to increase by 40% over the next decade.
- Between 1950 and 2015, an estimated 7,800 million tonnes of plastics were manufactured, half of this has been produced in the last 13 years alone.
- 8 million tonnes of plastic pollution enters our oceans each year and estimated by 2050 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish.
So where has all this plastic gone?
- 79% has accumulated in landfill or in the natural environment
- 12% has been incinerated
- 9% has been recycled
Billions of tonnes of the plastic we’ve produced still exists somewhere in the world. This growing rate of plastic production raises problems in many areas of our society. It’s contributing to waste and pollution issues, it’s impacting our health, and it’s threatening our oceans and wildlife.
Recycling plastic is not enough
We must change how we design, use, and reuse plastics. We cannot simply recycle or reduce our way out of the plastic pollution crisis.
Recycling is not enough
Only 9% of our plastic has been recycled, and only 10% of that can been recycled more than once
Learning
Recycled plastics are mostly downcycled, meaning that they’re recycled into products of lesser quality which are less likely to be further recycled
Not the solution
Recycling is important, but will never be the solution to our rapidly expanding plastic consumption
Why does it matter?
Our manufacturing partner and products
Our manufacturing partner Selden Research Ltd has an exemplary performance in terms of its legal chemical manufacturing responsibilities and sustainability credentials.
Selden has a stringent chemical ingredients policy to ensure protection of the environment, users and the Selden production staff. The detergent industry has long been subjected to environmental legislation and the vast majority of chemicals now used in cleaning products rapidly degrade into harmless materials. European Regulation requires all cleaning products to be biodegradable. However, there are still a minority of ingredients available whose widespread use is not considered justified and credible manufacturers like Selden have voluntarily removed them.
